Relaxing Day Would Be an Understatement.....

7-20-2010

Today we literally lazed around the house, watched television etc...all the while feeling a strong need to take a nap!  How could we possibly need a nap?  We decided to head out to Best Buy to look around just to be moving :-)

Daughter in law is having contractions about 5 minutes apart this evening and Army Hospital told them to wait until they are a minute apart...this is her second child!  Is everything on Army time???

Glad to be going to bed knowing at any moment the phone will ring to announce our new baby has arrived into this world.  Our biggest role will be to love him and be Christian example's of how we were intended to live and love while on this earth.

Counting the moments........

A Very Lazy Day.....

Today was a very lazy day.  After three weeks I finally went to get my manicure/pedicure and not a moment too soon!  Prices are higher for such things, almost $10.00 more for the whole package....Elite Nails  I miss you too!  Felt great at any cost.

Clouds filled the Colorado sky so the temps were down considerably, somewhere in the mid to high70's.  We had a few shouts of thunder and lighting was spotted several times.  I was hoping for a good rain day but we only received a few giant raindrops.

One of today's treats was a trip to Abbott's.....similar to frozen yogurt but its custard....YUMMO!  I had the chocolate filled to the brim with almonds and then doused in hot fudge :-)  Thanks for the treat Scott!!

The big treat of the day, Bob made his world famous...well, California anyway....famous burritos!  We skyped our daughter in law Katie to let her know...its kinda funny to see how upset she gets when she misses out on "her" burritos....she reminded us that this was twice we have had them without her.

Thankful again for the ability to skype....it was so great to see her and my son Mike.  It seems like forever since we've seen them....I think we'll have burritos when we get home and maybe a little family reunion :-) A hug fest!

We anxiously await the call that son  Joseph and wife Angelina have had our newest grandson!!!  He was due on the 17th...so should be here any day moment.  They are in Kansas where we are headed next.  Saying some prayers the baby comes quickly, Angelina is ready to say the least.  Nothing like going past your due date !  Feel free to join in on that prayer:-)

Had to include some photos of Scott and Tami's beautiful house that we refer to as Club Med Resort.....Gotham style!

Eligible for Social Security?

Well, today was Bob's 62nd birthday, eligible for Social Security.  How awesome must that feel ...and how lucky he is to have a young bride such as myself :-)

We had a do nothing day in celebration of his special day.  Went to the market for a few things and I made Mediterranean Pasta and Parmesan biscuits for his Birthday dinner.

After dinner we watched Avitar, which was a great movie. Enjoyed a nice bottle of wine with our friends, and munched on chocolate covered blueberries! Actually found ourselves throwing up the white flag and turning in at an appropriate bedtime of 9:30!!

Happy to hear my Mom made it home from her travels to Montana and to my sister Deanna's in Torrance CA. She loves being with her family and she has had a lot of that this last month! She had a great time but said it was great to be home...glad my son's are near by while I'm still on the road. Word has is she has a lunch date with my son Brian this week!  Dad would be proud that the kids are there for her.  I'm hoping before summers end we can have a big family barbecue with Mom, my siblings and the grand kids.  Nothing a Mom loves more than having her entire family together at one time.  Enough has changed for her without my Dad, the least we can do is our best to still have the all family functions...... Not always an easy feat, but we always try!

Though I'm having the time of my life, I so miss our California family and friends. I'm starting to count the days until we can see them again.

Until then, more Colorado memories to be made and the Land of Oz still awaits me.....

Picnic at 14,264 Feet

7/17/2010

So today Bob and I have been married ten years and so begins the eleventh :-)
Woke up late due to our midnight bowling.....

Today we were headed to the Arapaho National Forest, specifically to Mt. Evans elevation 14,264 ft., really?
"What might that road look like?", I asked, fearful of the answer.  Scott handed Bob a map and Bob starts laughing, "the road is called, Oh My God Road".  Again, really?  At this exact moment I am actually excited about the flat lands of Kansas we will be traveling to next!!!!!

The road only had moments where I had to put my head into Bob's shoulder with eyes closed.  Part way up we stop to take some photos of the Bristle Cone Pines, trees that are over 1,000 years old!

Tell me these trees don't have shades of Wizard of Oz?  I'm expecting faces to appear and arms limbs start moving at any moment.

My best bud and I :-)

I was told we still have a ways to go, I look up at the road that continues to wrap it self up and around this mountain....the cars look really tiny...but...here we go.  Turns out we all survived the ride up and it really was beautiful.  I discovered what my son's have been telling me for years about breathing, feeling weird, etc... from the high elevations where they fish in High Sierra's.  I am feeling a little light headed and for sure it took a concentrated effort to breath properly here above the tree line.

We climb up the mountain a little ways, spotted a mountain goat the size of a horse lying high up on the mountain watching all us tourists.  The view, again was incredible.

After climbing back down we decide its time for some lunch so we find the perfect picnic spot.

We had to have Scott and Bob pose for a silly photo, we do this when we get together :-)

We enjoyed the lunch, the company, the beautiful surroundings and the drastic change in temperature that required our jackets.  Around 4:30 we head back down the mountain to the 90 plus degree weather and a nice big steak dinner for us four exhausted adults, whose topic of the day has been.....we are just too old to continue to stay up late, Wii or no Wii...... So at about 10:30ish us old folk called it a day...the happiest of anniversaries yet!

and yes......another tunnel !

It was indeed a great day in Colorado.........

Shop, Dine and Water Sports?

Yes, we started the day at Invesco Field home of Bob and Tami's Denver Bronco's.  Scott and I went into take a look only because it was too hot to sit in the jeep.  Scott a Seahawk fan, myself Kansas City Chiefs!!  I will tell you I was very excited for Bob, I know how I would feel to see my teams home field and I know how much he loves his Bronco's.

Bob was like a kid in a candy shop with all the Bronco goods for sale. Scott and I felt trapped in a sea of blue and orange....but heck marriage is about give and take.....right?  He left with a pair of Bronco shorts and a story to tell.

From Invesco Field we headed to the Mall on a very warm day to wander through the stores air conditioning.  Bob and Scott were troopers as Tami and I went into most every shop that may have had something we needed wanted.  I left with a few items.....nuff said..... there may or may not have been a stop at Ms. Field's cookies.

After walking several miles of mall, a stiff back and feet swollen enough to be mistaken for Fred Flintstones....we made the decision to  depart to our next destination.

Next stop was the Sushi Den, a treat from Scott and Tami for our up coming anniversary :-) lucky us!

We ate until we could eat no more, I broke down and tried eel.....ewwwwwwe :-( Not a fan....I am more the, whatever has cream cheese in it I will love.  Great time sharing a meal with our pals but really, I can't wait to get home and do some more Wii bowling!!

Upon returning to the Gotham house hold, (sounds very batmanish no?) we meandered out to the beautiful deck on the back of the house for re hashing the day and enjoying a glass of wine.  So beautiful out there and really, really relaxing!  We stayed until Bob threw up the white flag to the mosquitoes. Mosquitoes 6 Bob 0 for this trip....they really like him.

My bowling game was a success, I bowled a 200!  I remember when I bowled my first real 200 ...I couldn't wait to call my Dad and share the news, he was so happy for me!  After three games of bowling we switched to water sports.....wake boarding to be exact.

After wake boarding we switched to ping pong, then basketball and ended the night....very early morning hour of 1:30ish A.M. with another round of bowling!  Crawling into bed the entire left side, rear to toe was nearly non functional!  This late night gaming / workouts have got to be scaled down!

Logan, clearly was letting us know he would like to get back to his usual bedtime!!!

Hugs!

Let the Fun Begin !

Day one in Thornton Colorado....

Spent my morning doing laundry that has accumulated since July 3rd....funny how when I'm away from home I kinda miss folding clothes.  It's one of those chores I enjoy doing because I am able to let go of the useless information taken in.  We tend to hold on to info in our heads that isn't really that important and makes it difficult to focus on that which is important to us.  So as I fold my clothes I am relaxed, and focused on the things that matter. How thankful I am to have had the time with my family in Montana, how glad I am to be out of the car for a few days, and how nice it is to not have to get up early and hit the road.  Time for some fun with Scott and Tami!

Late afternoon we headed to Bolder Colorado to the Pearl Street Mall.  Interesting outdoor mall setting, filled with people of all kinds.  Many are students of University of Colorado whose mascot it the buffalo. This was my second visit to Pearl Street and I have to say, I can't help but feel I've been  dropped  back in time......like all the way back to the 70's.  The attire of the extremely laid back youngsters, much like what I was wearing then.  Faded blue jeans, blue jean shorts, gauze
tops, chokers made of beads and leather, gals with minimal make up if any.  Great little place to people watch!

There were a few young street musicians scattered throughout the outdoor area.  Some on guitar, with cases lying open on the ground for tips $$, some accompanied the guitars with voice.
Always happy to hear music wherever I am....

There was a young boy on an old upright piano that was so incredibly good I had to wonder, "why are you here in an outdoor mall and not being paid to perform like that".  I'm hoping he is a music major or at minimum that he never lets that talent go to waste.

The above photo is of Tami and Scott at the outdoor seating area of where we had a great early dinner under the very warm Bolder sun.  The food was great and we left very full and lethargic from the meal, heat and oh ya, we stopped and bought a couple scoops each of Haagen - Dazs.  Not to often I don't feel like shopping and they do have some great shops here!

We got home, complained to each other about how full we were for about 30 minutes and then......bring on the Wii !!  If you've never played a Wii game, its a blast and quite a workout rather you intended that or not :-)  We started with bowling, at which time I announced to those who may not have been aware, " I used to play on a league".... :-)

I took the game of bowling kinda serious, felt a little competitive...okay a lot competitive..... I pulled from my memory bank several tips my Dad gave me back in the 70's when he and I were on a league together.  How to pick up certain spares by hitting the pin at just the right spot, from just the right angle.  He taught me the same in the game of pool....these memories bring a smile to my face.

We also played baseball, basketball, archery, and cycling.....found ourselves ready to call it quits at around 1:00 A.M !!  We are too old to be keeping these kind of hours....and my arm is sore?

I failed to mention how awesome our quarters are here in the Gotham household.  We have the downstairs to ourselves and here is what all we have....

Yep, life is tough here in Thornton......

I can't not share a photo of Logan the Gotham family cat.  Logan is 20 years old and just isn't ready to leave this house, and his mom states, he's had a good life!
Looking forward to another day of fun and adventure with our friends....stay tuned!

Hugs!
